Why every Muslim woman should learn basic sewing skills?

For a Muslim Woman, finding clothing that are both stylish and aligned with our values isn’t always easy. Sewing gives us the flexibility to be truly aligned with our beliefs without compromising on being modest and stylish

Our beloved prophet Muhammad (saw) mended his own clothes. He never thought sewing was beneath him. For him, it was an act of care, humility and sustainability. Learning to sew connects us to this sunnah 😊

For many generations Muslim women have literally stitched their homes together. Sewing has been passed down from one woman to the other, from baby clothes to Eid outfits to wedding clothes

Sewing can also mean financial empowerment:

  • You can save money on tailoring
  • Save money on alterations
  • Start your own side hustle
  • Teach others to pass on the skill

Sewing is therapeutic as it’s a slow, intentional and hands on skill. Sewing attracts patience, peace, and reflection as we work. Every Muslim woman deserves to feel confident, covered and creative. Obtaining sewing skills gives us the freedom to express our style, honour our deen and take ownership of what we wear - without relying on anyone else.
