Before we begin, it is highly essential that you know about the different types of Shalwar Kameez available. So let’s go through all the styles with visuals so we can see what’s out there.

1. Straight Cut Salwar Suit: The Straight cut is exactly what it says on the tin, the Kameez is cut straight from the hips with no flare. The size of your hips will determine the width of your kameez.

They are a popular classic choice of Shalwar Kameez style because of the way they compliment the body. Women from all age groups, shapes and sizes can benefit the simple straight cut shalwar suit.

The straight cut is a perfect combination of grace and sophistication. While you cannot wear regular, flared anarkalis to meetings and somber events, you can always rely on a straight cut suit every day.

2. Anarkali Suit: It is a form of Salwar Kameez worn by women in India and various South Asian countries. The name ‘Anarkali’ signifies the famous dancer at Mughal Emperor Akbar’s court, who attracted and stole the heart of Prince Salim. She is renowned for her exceptional beauty, and the name ‘Anarkali’ was given to her literally means ‘blossoming pomegranate.’ It consists of lots of panels running through it, with a fitted bodice and lots of flare on the skirt.

Today, the Anarkali is preferred for almost every special occasion like weddings, parties, festivals, social gatherings, etc. Women of all ages love this suit design for its elegance, uniqueness, and style.

3. Frock Style Suit: It is similar to the Anarkali but doesn’t consist of the panels that the Anarkali is famous for. The bodice is generally fitted and the flare skirt is wide and is usually cut out into a circle. The frock style can be short to the knee or up to the mid-calf. It can also be styles with different shalwar’s including, straight pants, churidar or shalwar.

4. Lehenga Style Suit: a three-piece suit comprising the lehenga, a long Indian skirt, cut in a full circle for that feminine edge worn by Indian women across India.

Worn with mid waist top in a fitted style. And finished off with a dupatta. Lehenga is usually worn on ceremonial occasions, festivals and weddings.

5. Sherwani Style Salwar Suit: I am quite a minimalistic person and I am drawn to plain and understated clothing, and for that reason the Sherwani Style Salwar Suit is my favourite. The simple elegance of it and the collar giving it a formal edge is what I love about it. I just love the formality of it and I think it really emphasises female empowerment.
