Yes, in a LIVE Face to Face course in YOUR CITY. 

If you are passionate about cutting and sewing your own ABAYAS AND KIMONOS and eager to learn the intricacies of measuring and sewing, then you've come to the right place. 

Our live course is designed to guide you, step-by-step, through the process of creating BEAUTIFUL MODEST GARMENTS, regardless of your skill level, with highly trained experts with you on the day. 

Whether you're a seasoned seamstress or a beginner just starting your journey, this course offers comprehensive, easy-to-follow lessons that will empower you to create beautiful, custom Clothing

What you will go home with..

 

Over the course of two days, you'll go home with two complete patterns: one for a Tailored semi - fitted abaya and one for a Kimono. Each of these patterns involves unique pattern cutting and sewing skills, ensuring a rewarding learning experience.

Furthermore, you'll have the opportunity to bring these designs to life with your sewing machine. Not only will you leave with these two handmade garments, but also with a sense of accomplishment, newfound friendships, and a lifelong mentor. Truly invaluable!

What you will learn in the 2 days

Course content: Day 1

10.00: Introduction to the pattern and how to use

10.30: Tracing off the pattern to your size

11.30: Fold fabric and cut out

1.00:  Lunch break - Please bring a packed lunch

1.30: Start sewing the zip into garment

2.30: Sew up the neckline and join shoulders

3.30: Insert sleeves, and sew up side seams

4.00: Fitting the abaya, adjusting and Hemming 

5.00: Finish 

Course content: Day 2

10.00: Cutting out the basic Kimono Pattern

11.30: Cutting it out onto fabric

12.30: Start sewing the kimono

1.00: Lunch break - Please bring a packed lunch

1.30: Learn how to attach the plackets very neatly

2.30: Sewing up the cuffs on the kimono

3.30: 15/ 20 min coffee break

3.45: Trying on, adjusting and hemming the abaya

5.00: Pack up

Equipment you must bring with you

  • Sewing Machine, with zipper foot
  • Fabric (please ask what to buy) 3m for abaya, 3m for kimono
  • Matching zip - 16” (not invisible)
  • Matching thread, good quality - Moon, Gutterman or Madeira
  • Pen
  • Pencil (I prefer the leaded ones)
  • 30cm ruler
  • Paper scissors
  • Fabric scissors (if buying new, ask for recommendation)
  • Tape measure
  • Pins (please buy good quality)
  • Tailors chalk
  • Seam ripper
  • Masking tape
  • Iron-on interfacing
  • Pattern cutting paper and handouts will be provided

Terms and Conditions

  • You will be required to pay a deposit of £100 to secure your place, we will contact you via WhatsApp for the remaining payment closer to the time. 
  • All learning difficulties, disabilities must be declared before paying deposit.
  • Deposit must be made to secure your place on the course. This is refundable until 14 days prior to the course start date, after this its NON-REFUNDABLE.  
  • The remaining payment is made BEFORE the course starts. The payment is NON-REFUNDABLE once you start
  • It is strictly the responsibility of the individual to attend the lessons.
  • We are under no obligation to repeat lessons or provide extra content including videos.

I wanted to learn to sew so I could have some flexibility in my clothing business and I have learnt how make my own abayas and different ways of adapting to the styles I want and I really enjoyed the workshop setting. Lessons were set out perfectly well, and I didn’t want them to finish, I love how I can message Rizwana if I have a question and I am always asking her about different styles. I now feel that I am super talented by Rizwana’s teaching and I will continue to sew. I have always wanted to learn how to sew, Alhamdulillah this class gave me the opportunity to learn and develop my passion further to create and tailor make garments according to my style. The classes were very useful and were taught thoroughly. After learning how to sew, this has given me a perfect platform to build on my basic skills and enhance the skills further. Rizwana was very patient and would always guide me if I struggled during the course. The beauty of this course was we were taught all the skills the professional way and were not taught short cuts. I love how we were equipped with different patterns for different Abaya’s in our final lesson so we can use the templates to make them in the future.

I have to say the tutor was very helpful Thank you to my tutor for kindling a flame in my heart for sewing, I am definitely going to continue this endeavour It was lovely so lovely to learn from someone that’s passionate about sewing and knows EXACTLY what she is doing, and has answers literally at the top of her head. Wow, that was super amazing course. The lessons were well structured with specific targets and outcomes clearly planned. The step-by-step approach to making the abaya made it really easy to learn and practice. The videos we took in class as students really helped as we can refer to them on the WhatsApp group, and the detilled diagrams were outstanding and a fabulous resource to have. It helped me to feel like I’ve left the course with something that will help me when sewing in the future. All of which, really provided the push for me to actually get on with sewing rather than just thinking about it.

Rizwana’s knowledge and experience clearly shows through her professional teaching approach, where time was not wasted chit chatting. The best moment is knowing a wonderful teacher has helped me draw my own body block that will remain with me for life and provided the skill and confidence to pass on the skill to my daughters. I wanted to say a huge Thank you for putting on the Abaya sewing course. Riz you really are the best sewing instructor, so professional and encouraging. I only knew how to sew straight lines and had never made my own clothing. Learning how to measure, cut the patterns, interface, and sew them perfectly (with a zip might I add) was the best bit.
